My name is Carl Älfvåg and I’m 45 years of age, married and the father of three children. Before coming to Handisam I was working as Director at the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. In this capacity I was responsible for finances, administration and personnell as well as the coordination of budget, international issues, child issues and analysis. My duties encompassed all policy fields, including disability policy. I was a member of the Ministry Management team. Prior to that I worked for many years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and have been posted both in Asia and Europe.Throughout my various assignments, human rights issues have been constant companions.
I have always been interested in social matters. We each have our own ideas of what makes an interesting job. I find working in the public sector challenging. There is so much to be done. The mission of Handisam is massive and important. I trust that we will be one of the key players on the disability policy scene. It seems that these issues are slowly but surely gaining ground in the public debate. The National Disability Action Plan and the near mythical change of perspective will be clarified and converted into action. To this end, everyone will be required to assume their responsibility.
